ContentAgent v3.10 Helps Automate Remote Workflows
Root6 ContentAgent v3.10 is now available.
Key highlights include:-
Archiving with BlackPearl
Root6 ContentAgent now supports integration with Spectra Logic’s BlackPearl converged storage platform to enable automated media backup workflows. This new option enables clips and/or camera card structures to be archived to a BlackPearl system. The ability to browse and restore media files from BlackPearl storage is also available via the import tab. The Spectra Logic BlackPearl Converged Storage System provides an interface to on-premise object storage and Spectra tape and disk libraries, and multiple public cloud integrations.
Using public and private cloud environments, as temporary or permanent storage, is becoming an important part of today’s workflows.
Support has been added for the S3 API. ContentAgent can now upload (as well as download) single clips or camera cards, from any S3 capable storage solution (not just AWS S3 as in previous releases)
ContentAgent users can store their media files on S3 cloud based or local storage systems as part of their archive workflow. Later these files can be downloaded by ContentAgent onto local or network storage as part of a workflow.
H.264 GPU Acceleration
An updated H.264 encoder has been introduced to enable GPU hardware acceleration using NVIDIA’s NVENC technology. This helps to offload encoding tasks from the CPU and allows for faster creation of H.264 files. Benchmarking has shown that at least 2x performance over CPU H.264 encoding is achieved with appropriate NVIDIA graphics card such as a RTX 3080, RTX 3090, RTX 2080ti or GTX 1080ti. Multiple items can be encoded in parallel on the GPU simultaneously.
CardAgent v2.0 Remote Workflows
New functionality has been added to CardAgent to enable it to kick off ContentAgent ingest workflows from remote locations.
CardAgent can now run on a laptop or desktop PC without needing to be connected directly to a ContentAgent system on the same network.
An operator can launch CardAgent, browse camera cards (or single clips), add custom metadata and then choose to upload media files to cloud storage platforms which support the S3 protocol. CardAgent also now has a queuing engine which allows multiple clips and cards to be queued while awaiting upload to S3 cloud storage.
With S3 based workflows, the remote operator can kick off an automated workflow by having ContentAgent watch the S3 bucket where clips will be uploaded into from the remote CardAgent system. ContentAgent will then download the media files and kick off a workflow automatically. Any custom metadata added by the remote operator via CardAgent will be inserted into the workflow.
In Summary – the new CardAgent functionality enables the ability to upload media files to cloud storage to then kick off workflows with ContentAgent.
Audio Time Stretch
The new Audio Time Stretch feature allows users to perform standards conversions in a completely new way. Leveraging Minnetonka’s advanced audio processing it’s now possible to apply high quality framerate conversion to audio streams in a ContentAgent workflow. If you then combine this with a matching video “speed change” in the Platinum node it’s then feasible to achieve standards conversions between certain framerates without frame interpolation artifacts. The Audio Stretch feature can also be used with the Varispeed node that enables the retiming of .MOV and .MP4 files without transcoding.
Chapter Support For Imported And Exported .MOV And .MP4 files
ContentAgent now has support for chapter marks when both exporting and importing .MOV and .MP4 files.
Variable Frame Rate Transcoding
There is now a new tab in the Platinum node called “Misc”, (miscellaneous), that contains additional functions / features. The options include a feature to enable the transcoding of Variable Frame Rate media files to a standard frame rate.
