New Avid Kit and New Support Contract For Sumners

Manchester postproduction facility Sumners has taken delivery of three Avid Symphony DX Nitris editing and finishing systems from root6. This will be one of the first UK installations for the equipment which was announced at NAB earlier in the year.

The DX Nitris systems installed in early July will replace some older Symphony editing systems as the 35-suite broadcast facility gears up for the HD future.

“Around 90% of our business comes from broadcast,” explains Sumners’ Director of Technology Brian Hardman.”We are fully networked so projects may be shared around multiple suites. The new systems will extend this functionality into the world of HD which now accounts for about 30% of all production.”

The new systems will see immediate HD action on two new comedy series for BBC3; ‘Trexx and Flipside,’ a sitcom about two wannabe hiphop stars and ‘Massive’ starring Johnny Vegas together with ‘Around the World in 80 Faiths,’ an 8 x 60’ series for BBC Religion.

Sumners, the largest single-site postproduction facility outside the M25, has also enlarged its Avid Unity media network to accommodate the new DX systems and signed up with root6 for technical support.

“It’s not just about Avid support,” maintains Hardman.“It’s also about establishing a broader relationship. root6 has a holistic approach and understand our business which will be helpful in developing our workflow as new technologies become available.”
