Free Seminars

“The Flexible Facility of the Future.”

In addition to the exhibition, Platform1 is running a series of FREE seminars that will will be repeated over the two days of the event.

The theme this year is “The Flexible Facility of the Future.” In a series of seminars we’ll examine how flexibility can be designed in and understand its importance for our working practices. During the day we’ll look at the different aspects of the flexible facility, covering topics from initial design through remote working and collaboration to monetising content and DPP compliant broadcast deliverables.

All of the seminars are free to attend but the limited places for each will be allocated on a first-come basis, with priority going to those who've pre-registered their interest whilst registering for the exhibition.

  • 09:30am - Arrivals

  • 10:00am - Introduction to the Flexible Facility of the Future

  • 10:15am - The Core Facility, Including Remote Operations

We look at the design and implementation stages, demonstrating how the latest technologies can be harnessed for more flexible and productive working. We’ll also discover how intelligent KVM extension facilitates more flexible working spaces and enables remote operations with the parallel use of low latency video over IP.

  • 11:00am - Coffee

  • 11:15pm - Post Cubed

A well-designed facility can now utilise available technologies to provide remote capabilities in tandem with traditional post production services. Multi-site collaboration and the concept of Popup Post offer substantial return on investment. We’ll examine the different elements that form Post Cubed and how each of them brings value to the business.

  • 12:00pm - Monetising Content

Content - be it future, current or past has a value. Using real-world examples we discuss the workflows that allow people to see, search and appreciate the value of the content. We’ll look at the different stages of creating an easy-to-use searchable interface and examine how back end technologies protect valuable content with disaster recovery capabilities.

  • 12:45pm - Lunch

  • 1:45pm  - Morning Recap

A quick recap on The Flexible Facility so far.

  • 2:00pm  - The New DPP Standard for Broadcast Deliverables

With the imminent introduction of the AS-11 DPP broadcast delivery standard, we take a look at its specification and implementation. We discuss file-based QC and the best ways to move and deliver large files and associated metadata. We show how the process may be simplified and automated for consistently reliable results.

  • 3:15pm - Coffee

  • 3:35pm  - Storage and the Future

Nobody can have enough storage. But using it appropriately and effectively is key. We look at online, offline and archive modes of storage and show how commodity hardware can be used in conjunction with a software layer to create an effective and workable offering. We’ll examine archiving and the suitability of a variety of media options to ensure you get the most from your storage, regardless of operating system or application.

  • 4:15pm - Wrap Up / Demos available in Exhibition
