Shedding Light On Technology

Welcome to our May 2009 Newsletter. A lot has been happening over the past few months, especially with NAB, our major technology show for the Broadcast and Film Industry. Hopefully you followed our NAB updates during the show. One major highlight was the ability to process RED Files in real time using the DVS Clipster, resolving the bottleneck issues we currently have when dealing with RED. I am pleased to say we have this technology at our Film Forum, see below, along with other Post NAB updates.

As we continue towards our cut and paste dream, understanding of the principles of traditional video, although still very relevant knowledge, is increasingly being forgotten. However, to combat this we have created the following seminars and launched our first series of training courses:

Tech Breakfast

Tech Breakfast

In Conjunction With Tektronix

Tuesday 9th June, Bertorellis - Frith Street
8:30 - 10am

"Understanding dual-link": The focus of this breakfast meeting for broadcast/post engineers will be understanding dual-link video, its colour space and reviewing the future with 3G, 50p.  There is limited places at this seminar, therefore please register your interest by contacting us here

Training

Video 101

Leading on from our seminar program, we are pleased to announce the first of our informative, hands-on training courses, presided over by industry legend and root6's Head of Systems Integrations, Phil Crawley.

The first course will be Video test & measurement 101, ideal for the runner who is going into the machine room or edit assistant who is starting to play more of an operational role.  The course will include:

  • Overview of test and measurement and historically why it was necessary
  • Current requirements and the economic necessity of delivering proper material
  • Overview of the four-tiles style of current WVR/WFM models and operation
  • Line waveforms and what you're looking at
  • Overview and introduction to colour space and gamut including legalisers

This will be held on Tuesday 9th June, Bertorellis - Frith Street, 11:00am - 15:00

Discounts are available for customers with a valid root6 support contact.
