 Shedding Light On Technology
Welcome to our May 2009 Newsletter. A lot has been happening over the past few months, especially with NAB, our major technology show for the Broadcast and Film Industry. Hopefully you followed our NAB updates during the show. One major highlight was the ability to process RED Files in real time using the DVS Clipster, resolving the bottleneck issues we currently have when dealing with RED. I am pleased to say we have this technology at our Film Forum, see below, along with other Post NAB updates.
As we continue towards our cut and paste dream, understanding of the principles of traditional video, although still very relevant knowledge, is increasingly being forgotten. However, to combat this we have created the following seminars and launched our first series of training courses:

Tech Breakfast
In Conjunction With Tektronix

"Understanding dual-link": The focus
of this breakfast meeting for broadcast/post engineers will
be understanding dual-link video, its colour space and reviewing
the future with 3G, 50p. There is limited places at this

Video 101
Leading on from our seminar program, we are pleased to announce
the first of our informative, hands-on training courses, presided
over by industry legend and root6's Head of Systems Integrations,
Phil Crawley.
The first course will be Video test & measurement
101, ideal for the runner who is going into the machine
room or edit assistant who is starting to play more of an operational
role. The course will include:
- Overview of test and measurement and historically why
it was necessary
- Current requirements and the economic necessity of delivering
proper material
- Overview of the four-tiles style of current WVR/WFM
models and operation
- Line waveforms and what you're looking at
- Overview and introduction to colour space and gamut
including legalisers
This will be held on Tuesday 9th June, Bertorellis
- Frith Street, 11:00am - 15:00

Film Forum
In Conjunction With DVS

The main feature of this seminar will be the real-time Red file based
production using DVS’s Clipster.
Two other technologies on display will be Real-time 4k playback and
stereoscopic workflow.
Root6 will also have ContentAgent on display, showing the worlds
first automated Blu-Ray dailies solution.
