It's that time of year, in the post trade-show aftermath,
that the toys on show start to make their way out to the end-user.
Here's a quick round-up of some of our favourites...
IBC will always mean different things to different people
but one of the trends that certainly caused a buzz that was
hard to ignore was the rise of the video-enabled DSLR camera,
such as the canon 7D.
Such cameras definitely have their benefits and the rise
in their popularity has now spawned some products to counteract
some of their disadvantages - products such The Foundry's RollingShutter,
an ingenious plug-in for After Effects designed to combat skew/"Jellocam"
artefacts and other distortions inherent to cameras that use
a progressive scan CMOS sensor. It's a really powerful
tool and surprisingly fast given the complexity of the analysis

Avid Media Composer, the industry workhorse editing software,
has just had an upgrade to version 4. New features include a
multi-format timeline that not only enables mixing of resolutions
and formats but of frame-rates as well. MC4 also has enhanced
support for AVC-Intra, allowing editors to work with the format
natively from acquisition right through to delivery. Find

Avid has also extended their support for third-party products
with Interplay, Avid's production asset management system, now
supporting Final Cut Pro Workflows. Users can check in
and check out native, unconverted FCP projects or sequences
converted to/from AAF/MXF meaning editors using Final Cut Pro
can work on projects side-by-side with Avid systems, with everything
tracked and stored in the same place. Find out
