Pixit Media solution from root6 meets storage and network challenges for BBC Studios and Post Production
Scale-out storage architecture specialists Pixit Media announced that BBC Studios and Post Production (BBC S&PP) has installed PixStor as part of a storage upgrade for its Digital Media Services division. The new PixStor offers BBC S&PP Digital Media Services an initial working capacity of 130TB with a guaranteed 9.6 Gbit/s of network performance, shared across its media hub services, programme acquisitions and digitisation projects.
The new storage was supplied by reseller root6 which identified PixStor as the most appropriate technology to meet BBC S&PP’s workflow and growth requirements. “With the wealth of digitisation projects that lay ahead, BBC S&PP Digital Media Services needed a cost-effective, high performance and scalable central storage solution,” said Rupert Watson, sales director at root6. “As PixStor is based on a commodity hardware platform, the costs of future storage growth are much more transparent.”
In the first months of service PixStor has been used for digitisation projects, file-based reviews and work in progress storage for the BBC S&PP archive, transcoding and fulfilment services. In one digitisation project, five streams of HD were simultaneously captured directly to PixStor, greatly improving the efficiency of the workflow.
