Avid Support’s Knowledgebase Search Improved

If, like me, you have found the Avid Support Site’s Knowledgebase to be rather poor at finding appropriate or relavant documents and articles, Charlie Raynsford and Kevin Lynch at Avid have told me that help is at hand. Avid recently implemented a Google Search Engine to assist with finding material and new links are now available to search the Knowledgebase which will return accurate and relevant results quickly – just what the doctor ordered!

Try the following links to:

- Perform a general search of the whole Avid site use this link: http://www.avid.com/search

Understanding the NAB 2012 Avid Announcements

Avid have made a slew of announcements this year at NAB12 and we are going to take a brief first look at them. It is always tricky to asses the implications of product announcements if you have had no hands on time with the device or software, and have been unable to speak to the team about any in depth features or workflows. That dear reader is going to have to wait until we can get some time with them on the show floor; We will update this accordingly

So consider then that Chris Gahagan (SVP Product Development at Avid) and his team have delivered new products across the ISIS, Interplay, Airspeed, News and Graphics platforms, as well as a  Media Composer 6.1 update with ASO2 and JPEG2000 support. They also announced the new “Multi Platform Distribution” environment- something we intend to dig deeply into over the next few days. That is a heck of a lot of new stuff, each worthy of their own article alone, so forgive the brief overview.

The standouts of this bunch of new products have to be Interplay Sphere, and ISIS2000 and we will look at those first.

What’s all this talk about mezzanine?

Over the last few months or so I’ve been hearing the word mezzanine used more and more in this world of media.
By definition it means an intermediate floor between main floors of a building, I think we all knew that…   I didn’t know mezzanine comes from Italian mezzano “middle”!
